L.D. SHARP

L.D. SHARP


L.D. Sharp was born on February 24, 1915 to George W. & Alvena E. (Maxey) Sharp in Grundy County, Missouri.  He was the youngest of their 11 children.  He registered for the draft in 1940 in Chillicothe, Livingston County, MO and at the time was employed by A Reich and Son. LD left Missouri to find work in Michigan where several of his siblings had relocated.  He enlisted in the US Army on September 8, 1942 in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan and was released on November 8, 1945 as a Staff Sergeant.  His enlistment papers state he had completed grammer school and was semi skilled in fabrication of metal products.

On June 25, 1949 he married Eileen Mary Claeys in Detroit Michigan.  They had two children during their marriage, a boy and a girl.  After their marriage in 1949, LD and Eileen moved several times within Michigan where they owned and operated Taverns/Bars.  They lived in Canton, Garden City, and Grosse Point Woods, finally moving back to Detroit.  LD and Eileen divorced in 1971.  LD died on February 25, 1988 in St. Clair Shores, Michigan and was buried in Resurrection Cemetery in Macomb County, Michigan.

Eileen Mary Claeys was born in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan to Remi John and Bertha Josephine Claleys on November 5, 1926.  After she and L.D. divorced, she married George S. Chalmers on December 8, 1978.  George preceeded her in death in 2003.  She died in Mt. Clemens, Michigan on December 28 2017. 

CENSUS


1920 - Jackson, Grundy County, MO - LD was living with his parents and 7 siblings.  
1930 - Chillicothe, Livingston County, MO - LD was living with his parents and sister Lizzie.  He was not attending school but was able to read and write. 
1940 - Was not able to find LD on 1940 census, but according to his military draft registration, he was in Chillicothe, Livingston County, MO in 1940.
1950 - Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan - LD and his wife Eileen are living at 1283 Fairview, Dwelling 5.  LD is a meat salesman for Wholesale Meats and Eileen is a stenographer with Tool & Gear Mfg.

LIZZIE FRANCES SHARP

LIZZIE FRANCES SHARP


Lizzie Frances Sharp was born on September 5, 1912 in Hickory County, Missouri to George W. and Alvena E. (Maxey) Sharp.  She married Herman Kasper Mathlin on May 12, 1963 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California.  They married late in life (50 and 49 years old) and had no children together, although Herman had 4 children from a previous marriage.   Lizzie died on March 7, 1981 in Yucipa, San Bernardino County, California.  Lizzie is buried at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, Los Angeles County, California.  

Herman K. Mathlin was a native of San Pedro, CA and was a longshoreman for the Pacific Maritime Association for 30 years.  His body was found in a car parked in a remote area and an autopsy found he had died of heat stroke.  Herman was born October 21, 1913 and died July 15, 1989 in Thermal, Riverside County, California.  He was married to Pauline Stephenson from 1934-1961 and to Agnes K. Leppala in July, 1981.

1920 - Jackson, Grundy County, MO - Lizzie was living with her parents and 7 siblings.  She was attending school.
1930 - Chillicothe, Livingston County, MO - Lizzie was living with her parents and her brother, LD.
She was not attending school but can read and write.
1940 - Trenton, Grundy County, MO - Lizzie is living with her parents and doing housework in a private home.  She worked 20 weeks in 1939 and made $120 for the year.  The highest grade she completed in school was 8th grade.
1950 - Trenton, Grundy County, MO - Lizzie is living with her mother at 514 Monroe.  She is listed as homemaker, not working.

LILLIE BEATRICE SHARP

LILLIE BEATRICE SHARP


Lillie Beatrice Sharp was born on March 31, 1910, in Trenton, Grundy County, Missouri to George W. and Alvena E. (Maxey) Sharp.  She married John Edward Nothnagel on December 24, 1928 in Chillicothe, Livingston County, MO.  They had three children during their marriage, Ruth (7-15-1930-7/29/1930 Ann Arbor, MI) Ronald Edward (10/22/1932-10/1/2022 Boulder, CO) and 1 surviving daughter.  Lillie and her husband John, moved to Wayne County, Michigan soon after their marriage, where they lived for 47 years, from 1928-1979.  They moved to Charlotte, NC, where they lived from 1979-1984, after which they moved to Dayton, TN.  

They were owners of Wayne Music Center in Wayne, Michigan until John retired in 1963.  John died in 1988 and Lillie died on June 13, 2006, in Waxhaw, North Carolina, at the age of 96, the last surviving child of George and Alvena Sharp.

Lillie worked with John in the family business in Wayne, Michigan.  She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.  She enjoyed sewing, reading, traveling and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  

John Nothnagel was born March 17, 1909 in Chillicothe, Livingston County, MO to George and Rose Nothnagel.  John was a member of the Rotary International and the Wayne Chamber of Commerce.  He was very active in the First Baptist Church in Wayne, Michigan where he served as a deacon, trustee, church moderator and Sunday School superintendent.  John died October 13, 1988 in Dayton, TN.

1910 - Jefferson, Grundy County, MO - Lillie is living with her parents and 8 siblings.
1920 - Jackson, Grundy County, MO - Lillie is living with her parents and 7 siblings.  She is going to school.
1930 - Wayne, Wayne County, Michigan - Lillie is living with her husband John.  She is listed as a homemaker.
1940 - Could not find them in the federal census for 1940, although John's obituary stated they lived in Wayne, Michigan from 1928-1979.  There is a city directory for Nashville, TN in 1941 showing John E. & Lillie Nothnagel with 2 children, owning a home at 1418 Highland Avenue.
1950 - Nankin, Wayne County, Michigan - Lillie is living with her husband, John, and their 2 children.  John is the proprietor of a retail music shop and Lillie worked part time as a clerk there.

LUCY ANN SHARP

LUCY ANN SHARP


Lucy Ann Sharp was born December 3, 1907 in Missouri to George W. and Alvena E. Sharp.  She married Elmer Louis Smith on February 9, 1927 in Livingston County, Missouri.  They lived in Livingston County, Missouri until sometime after 1935, when they moved to Canton, Wayne County, Michigan.  

Elmer and Lucy had 6 children, 4 born in Missouri and 2 born in Michigan.  Vernon Edward (1/6/1928-12/27/1947 , a marine who died overseas while on board ship), Charles Melvin (4/18/1929 - 7/11/2017 Chelsea, MI) Luetta May Benson (10/11/1930- 10/9/2016 Perry, GA) Judy ElizabethWynne (3/11/1941-4/7/2017 Edinburg, MO) and one daughter and one son survive.

Lucy was a homemaker and Elmer worked as a farmer in Missouri and then when he moved to Michigan he worked as a polisher at an auto factory per the 1940 and 1950 census.  The 1950 census shows Lucy working as a cook. 

Lucy died March 20, 1985 in Canton, Wayne County, MO and Elmer died May 14, 1996 in Roscommon County, Michigan.

1920 - Jackson, Grundy County, MO - Lucy is living with her parents and 7 siblings.  She is attending school and is able to read and write.  
1930 - Chillicothe, Livingston County, MO - Lucy is living with her husband, Elmer and her 2 sons, Vernon and Charles. The family is living on a farm and Elmer is working as a farm laborer.
1940 - Canton, Wayne County, MI - Lucy is living with her husband and 5 children.  The census shows that the family was living in Chillicothe on a farm in 1935.  The census shows that 8th grade was the highest grade Lucy completed in school.  The are renting a farm and paying $15 per month rent.
1950 - Canton, Wayne County, MI - Lucy is living with her husband, 3 children, a son-in-law and a granddaughter.  The live at 2721 Haggerty and Elmer is working as an Auto Polisher and Lucy as a cook.

LEXIE ALBIN SHARP

LEXIE ALBIN SHARP


Lexie Albin Sharp was born in Grundy County, Missouri on December 22, 1906 to George W. and Alvena (Maxey) Sharp.  He married Jessie Marie Corbin on December 23, 1926 in Chillicothe, Livingston County, Missouri.  Lex and Marie resided in Meadville, Missouri for 14 years before moving to Chillicothe, Livingston County, Missouri.  Lex started the marriage as a farmer in 1930, then by 1940, he was working as a truck driver for the W P A Reed Construction Project.  Later he would work at the Midwest Asphalt and Concrete Company, according to his obituary.  They were members of the Olive Branch Baptist Church.  Lex died January 13, 1975.  He is buried in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Chillicothe, Livingston County, MO.

There were 8 children born to their marriage and one adopted son, Kevin Lee.  
2 daughters and 4 sons have passed away - Betty Lou Lightfoot (4/19/1928-12/27/2012 Flower Mound, TX) Beverly June Jones (7/16/1933-5/7/2021 St Joseph, MO) Donald Wayne (5/12/1936-5/12/2003 Gibsonton, FL) Kevin Lee (11/3/1960-6/12/1983 Chillicothe, MO) and Gary Dee (8/24/1946-4/28/2015 Hunter, OK).  1 daughter and 2 sons survive.

Jessie Marie Corbin was born March 28, 1912 in Grundy County, Missouri to Frederick Jesse Corbin and Vassie Ella Bennett.  She died October 5, 1999 in Liberty, Clay County, MO and is buried in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Chillicothe next to Lex.

1920 - Jackson, Grundy County, MO - Lex is living with his parents and 7 siblings.  He is going to school and is able to read and write.
1930 - Jackson Township, Linn County, MO - Lex is living with his wife Marie and their daughter Betty Lou.  They are living on a farm and he is working as a farm laborer.  
1940 - Kidder, Caldwell County, MO - Lex is living with his wife Marie and 4 children.  They are renting a home with a monthly rent of $6.  Lex is listed as 7th grade being the highest grade he completed.  They census also shows they were living in the same place in 1935.
1950 - Meadville, Linn County, MO - Lex is living with his wife Marie and 7 children.  Lex was working as a road builder for the Township.  They were living at house #75 on the North Side of Block One in Meadville.
